Andrew Teng became a double Grosvenor UK Poker Tour winner when he added the title of GUKPT Edinburgh champion to his GUKPT Thanet victory from 2008.<\/p>\n
Taking place from 2-6 April 2014 at the Grosvenor Maybury casino in Edinburgh, Teng went into Sunday\u2019s final day second in chips, his 586,000 stack trailing only that of Dominik Nitsche, a holder of a World Series of Poker bracelet and a World Poker Tour title, who had 609,500.<\/p>\n
Nitsche reached the final table 140,000 down on his starting stack for the day with Teng now the chip leader on 626,500. Making up the final nine were Jeff Kimber (386,000), Scott Brown (254,000), Kevin Wood (347,500), Ross Loggie (544,000), David Gillies (510,500), Yingtao He (433,000) and Jonny Gray (379,000).<\/p>\n
Gray was the man who survived to do battle heads-up with Teng and went into the final stages with a 2.2-1.5 chip advantage. <\/p>\n
The pair swapped the chip lead several times over the next 2.5 hours before they agreed to take \u00a322,000 each and leave \u00a34,000, the trophy and the Grand Final seat for the eventual champion, who turned out to be Teng.<\/p>\n
Gray open-shoved with A-9 for around 1.8 million chips and Teng instantly called with KH-KS, Teng securing his second GUKPT title. <\/p>\n
Nitsche was the first to depart the final table, much to the surprise of the railbirds. He opened to 23,000 from early position, with Kimber three-betting to 55,000. There was a brief pause before Nitsche four-bet all-in for 380,000 with AH-KH and Kimber called with pocket rockets.<\/p>\n
The board provided no salvation for Nitsche, leaving Kimber to re-stack over 800,000 chips.<\/p>\n
Another 30 minutes passed by before Wood opened to 20,000 from the button and was called by Gillies in the small blind and Yingtao in the big blind. The trio watched on as the dealer spread the 7H-6D-2S flop. Gillies led for 32,000 and Yingtao called and Wood folded.<\/p>\n
The QD on the turn saw Gillies fire a more substantial 65,000 bet, which Yingtao again called. The fifth and final card was the 9S and Gillies set the price to continue at 96,000. Yingtao moved all-in and Gillies dwelled before calling with 6S-6H for a set of sixes. But his set was no good with Yingtao holding 8S-5C for a rivered straight.<\/p>\n
But Yintao couldn\u2019t put Gillies\u2019 chips to good use and crashed out of the tournament in seventh place an hour later when he jammed all-in with Q-9 on a 10C-8S-10H-KS board only to be snapped off by Teng\u2019s KC-10C that had improved to a full house! The inconsequential JD sealed Yintao’s fate<\/p>\n
Six became five when online grinder and local hero Loggie saw the action fold to him in the small blind and he moved all-in for around 10 big blinds with KH-9H. Unfortunately for Loggie, Gray held the AD-AC in the big blind and had one of the easier calls of his career. The rockets held up and it was game over for Loggie.<\/p>\n
Play continued short-handed and became even shorter half hour after Loggie\u2019s exit when Wood was cut down by Teng. A raise to 45,000 from Wood on the button was greeted with a call from Gray in the small blind then a squeeze to 120,000 from Teng in the big blind. The action was then back on Wood and he decided the best move for his 5H-5S was to move all-in for 380,000 more chips. Gray mucked and Teng called with the 8D-8H. Wood was drawing dead by the turn which brought the 8S leaving only four players in with a shot at winning the title.<\/p>\n
Next to be eliminated was Kimber. Having seen his queen cracked by the pocket nines of Gray, Kimber was left with a tiny stack of two-and-a-half big blinds. Those went into the middle with AD-7D and Teng called with AS-10S. Neither player improved leaving Teng\u2019s 10 kicker to play and see Kimber depart in fourth place.<\/p>\n
Play remained three-handed for the best part of two hours and ended with the elimination of Brown, who was down to 12 big blinds when he looked down at QD-JD and opted to move all-in. Gray made the call with the AD-10H to put Brown at risk. The five board of 3S-3D-7H-6H-5D brought no help for either and it was down to Gray or Teng for the title.<\/p>\n
