Spain’s Javier Elorza (880,000) and Daniel Rodriguez (720,000) were next in chips with Ireland’s Gareth Hamilton the short stack on 590,000.

The final table lost its first player after an hour when Cody three-bet all-in for 1,180,000 after Espinosa had opened to 105,000 from early position. Espinosa instantly called, flipping over pocket aces against Cody’s nines, and his rockets held to send Cody out in eighth.

Barwinski was next to leave after the action folded to Hamilton in the small blind and he set Barwinski all-in with the AS-JH. Barwinski called with the dominated QC-JD and when the board brought 8C-KC-2C-KD-4S it was game over for the Pole.

Rodriguez was the next player to come unstuck after Bauer raised to 120,000 from under the gun. Rodriguez three-bet all-in for 940,000 in the big blind with pocket eights and Bauer instantly called with queens, the ladies holding to send Rodriguez to the rail.

Hamilton was the next casualty after the action folded around to him in the small blind and he pushed all-in with kings. And he must have been delighted when Espinosa called with AD-8D and the flop brought 4S-9H-10D. But the JD on the turn gave Espinosa hope and when it was followed by the 6D on the river it was Hamilton heading for the door.

Elorza fell at the hands of Bauer a couple of hands later when the German set him in for the umpteenth time and he decided to take a stand with KC-7H. But Elorza picked the wrong time to take on Bauer who was holding AD-KD and with the board missing them both it was the Spaniard on his way home.

Svendsen was the next departure after a raising war broke out between her and Espinosa on a 9D-10S-3D flop. The battle saw Svendsen calling an all-in bet with 8D-6D against Espinosa’s pocket kings and when the turn and river were both non-diamond jacks the heads-up stage was set.

Espinosa held a massive 11.525m to 3.360m chip lead and after five hands the tournament was over.

The final hand saw Espinosa raise to 225,000 with 9H-7S and Bauer call with KC-3C. Bauer checked his top pair on the 9S-KS-6H flop with Espinosa betting 255,000. The German moved over the top to 825,000 and then called when Espinosa set him all-in.

The 7C on the turn gave Espinosa two pair and Bauer needed a three or a king to stay alive, but the 2D meant it was Espinosa who was crowned UKIPT Marbella champion.

UKIPT Marbella, 9-15 June 2014
1 Rodrigo Espinosa €136,000
2 Christian Bauer €82,900
3 Katja Svendsen €58,700
4 Javier Elorza €44,450
5 Gareth Hamilton €35,150
6 Daniel Rodriguez €26,550
7 Marcin Barwinski €19,050
8 Jake Cody €13,030

Spain’s Rodrigo Espinosa emerged the champion from the eight-handed UKIPT Marbella final table after beating Germany’s Christian Bauer to win the €136,000 first prize.
