Leg three of the Scottish element of the Grosvenor 25\/25 Series at the Merchant City Casino in Glasgow from 20-22 July attracted 190 entries and a prize pool of \u00a338,000, with Craig Smith taking the title and \u00a311,010 first-place loot.<\/p>\n
At the start of heads-up play Smith enjoyed a 3.1m to 1.65m chip advantage over Charlie Cheung and, after a duel that lasted more than an hour, he was proclaimed champion when his K-J had the beating of Cheung’s J-7 after they got all their chips in on a JD-6H-5D flop. The turn and river brought no reprieve for Cheung and he took home the runner-up’s cheque for \u00a37,220.<\/p>\n
At the start of three-handed play Paul Fallon was the short stack – with about a quarter of Cheung’s stack and less than a tenth’s of Smith’s – so it was no real surprise when he exited in third, shoving with Q-6 from the small blind into Cheung with pocket kings. The kings held and Fallon left \u00a34,520 richer.<\/p>\n
Steven Gray busted out in fourth place with A-7 on a king-high board with Smith holding K-7. And Smith also accounted for fifth-place finisher Todd Cairns, who ran his pocket nines into Smith’s jacks. The jacks held and Cairns pocketed \u00a32,050.<\/p>\n
Jamie Geraghty went in sixth for \u00a31,490 after shoving his short stack with 10-4 against Cairns’ A-8, the board offering no help.<\/p>\n
Steven Turner exited in seventh with his A-3 dominated by Fallon’s A-10 and Boaby Jardine was the man out in eighth place, his J-2 a poor second after Cheung’s K-Q improved on a KD-9H-3C flop. <\/p>\n
Billy Mundh was the first to leave the final table, shipping his stack with Q-J against Geraghty’s aces. The A-Q-J flop offered hope for Mundh and a ten on the turn kept him alive but there was no miracle on the river and Mundh went to the rail.<\/p>\n
