EPT Barcelona drew the largest ever field for an EPT main event, a total of 1,496 players turning out for the 100th edition and creating a \u20ac7,480,000 prize pool, with German online poker pro Andre Lettau taking it down for his first live title and \u20ac794,058.<\/p>\n
The 27-year-old entered the final table in the middle of the pack and after close to nine hours of action had survived to three-handed play, with American-born poker pro Sam Phillips holding a sizeable chip lead over him and 50-year-old EPT Barcelona senior\u2019s event winner Hossein Ensan, who used his winnings from that event to get a seat into the main event via a satellite. <\/p>\n
After much deliberation the three made a deal that ensured Phillips \u20ac1,021,275, Ensan \u20ac652,667 and Lettau \u20ac704,058, with \u20ac90,000 and the title to play for.<\/p>\n
Ensan was the first to be eliminated and by that point things had already changed drastically with Phillips – who had began three-handed play as the massive chip leader \u2013 going into the heads-duel with a more than 5:1 deficit after doubling both of his opponents and losing a few other big pots. <\/p>\n
Despite the chip disparity the heads-up match took more than six hours with 141 hands played, the tournament finally coming to a conclusion when Phillips, with about half Lettau’s stack, moving all-in for 12 big blinds from the button with the 8D-7D.<\/p>\n
Lettau quickly called with KC-10S and with the board running out KD-5S-2H-9H-KH he had the tournament and title locked up.<\/p>\n
