<\/p>\nDean Lyall took down the Grosvenor 25\/25 Series event at the Merchant City Casino from 14-16 March 2014, beating David Gillies heads-up to claim the title and \u00a312,000.<\/p>\n
Of the 212 players who began the tournament, it came down to two, with heads-up play starting with Lyall enjoying a 2:1 chip advantage over Gillies. And Lyall used his stack to good effect finishing off proceedings when his pocket 10s held up against Gillies’ K-Q.<\/p>\n

Robert Knight and Gordon Wood went out in third and fourth places respectively, both at the hands of Lyall.<\/p>\n
First Lyall took out Wood, whose A-10 was no match for pocket eights that turned into a set for Lyall, then in the next hand he accounted for Knight as well.<\/p>\n
Knight was responsible for knocking out Alan Wilder in fifth place, after Wood had opened for 55k. Knight put in a three-bet to 110k in position and Wilder shipped close to 600k all-in from the big blind.<\/p>\n
After a fold from Wood, Knight called with pocket queens against Wilder’s fishhooks and made a full-house to account for Wilder in fifth place.<\/p>\n
Keith Christie exited in sixth place after shoving all-in for 236k with pocket sixes against Lyall’s A-J, which improved to a set of jacks. <\/p>\n
Marco Ogan hit the rail in seventh, running A-K all-in pre-flop into Wood’s aces.<\/p>\n
G K Kamal finished in eighth place, with Bernie Breem the first to leave the final table when he shoved all-in for more than 350k after Lyall had opened for 32k.<\/p>\n
Lyall had the simplest of calls, with his pocket rockets holding up against Breem’s pocket nines.<\/p>\n
