Chung fired a 225,000 bet on the 6-A-K flop and Angell raised all-in with K-3. Unfortunately Chung had a better kicker with his king and instantly called with K-Q.

The turn brought a four and river a two, busting Angell and leaving Chung to be crowned the GPS Newcastle champion.

Chung had reached the final table as chip leader on 2,468,000, almost a million more than his closest rival, Rob Yong, on 1,587,000.

Keith Hawkins had the third-biggest stack with 1,303,000, followed by Colin Turnbull on 611,000, Angell on 550,000, Tom Brady with 302,000 and George Harle on 262,000.

Willie Tann took 213,000 to the table, with John Stirling the short stack on 207,000.

And, within 15 minutes of play starting on the final table, Stirling crashed out at the hands of Brady.

Brady moved all-in and Stirling followed suit, the other players ducking out of the way. Brady showed AH-10H and Stirling pocket sevens. A ten on the flop plus the 9H and 5H put Brady out in front and gave him an ace-high flush draw.

The 9D on the turn kept Brady in front and a queen on the river was the final nail in Stirling’s coffin.

The next player to lose their stack was Harle after he made it 180,000 following Brady’s opening bet to 55,000. Brady mucked after Angell four-bet all-in for 600,000 but Harle called with pocket sevens and was flipping against the A-K.

And once again the sevens came off second best, Angell hitting the K-10-Q flop to move in front and then stay there with a four on the turn and six on the river.

Brady was next to exit the final table after making an ill-timed move that cost him his tournament life. Chung opened to 40,000 and then quickly called when Brady three-bet all-in for 300,000. Chung’s A-K appeared to be in great shape against Brady’s K-Q but the Q-J-10 flop paired Brady’s queen before handing Chung a Broadway straight.

Turnbull became the sixth-place finisher after he pushed his 300,000 stack into the middle with what turned out to be pocket sixes and Chung made the call with jacks, the 10-9-2-A-2 board failing to come to Turnbull’s rescue.

Five became four with the elimination of Hawkins after he moved all-in for 425,000 from the button with only Tann to beat in the small blind because Yong had left his seat in the big blind. Tann eventually called and showed A-8, which was ahead of the 9-5 of Hawkins, who gained som hope from the 7-10-6 flop, but a three on the turn and 10 on the river missed him completely.

Four-handed play lasted an hour and ended with the exit of Yong when Tann raised from the small blind with A-J and Yong shoved all-in for 600,000 with A-5. Tann quickly called and the 7-6-3-2-2 board kept him in front and left Yong to collect the fourth-place prize money.

But Tann missed out on the heads-up showdown after he raised all-in after Angell’s bet from the button. Angell called with A-8 and had Tann, holding A-4, dominated but hoping for a split. The 7-Q-3-7-6 board meant Angell’s eight played though and went out in third place after going into the final table with the second smallest stack.

Genting Poker Series Newcastle
1 Tim Chung £32,815
2 Brett Angell £22,750
3 Willie Tann £15,310
4 Rob Yong £9,185
5 Keith Hawkins £7,000
6 Colin Turnbull £5,500
7 Tom Brady £4,190
8 George Harle £3,310
9 John Stirling £2,630

The third and final day of the Genting Poker Series Newcastle main event started with 12 players in contention but by the end of play only one remained… Tim Chung, £32,815 richer after claiming the first-place prize.
