Dermot Blain has completed a hat-trick of Global Poker Index player of the year awards after finishing top of the Irish 2014 leaderboard, having also topped the rankings in 2012 and 2013.
The 30-year old from Sligo started 2014 strongly with a victory in a €1,100 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha event at European Poker Tour (EPT) Deauville in January for €20,200 and followed that up with a runner-up finish in the JP Poker Masters in Dublin during April for an additional €23,080.
Blain’s biggest score of the year was €200,900, his reward for winning the €5,300 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Eight-Handed event at the EPT Grand Final.
The popular pro then headed to Las Vegas for the 2014 World Series of Poker where he reached the money four times including a 316th place finish in the Main Event before stopping off for the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in September, where he cashed in a $1,650 side event, his last score of 2014.
