Saint Bernard cuts deal for 25/25 win

Aarun Bernard outlasted a field of 112 entries, 13 players short of the £25,000 guarantee, to win the Nottingham leg of the Grosvenor 25/25 Series from 16-18 May 2014 and take away the trophy and £6,100.

Going one better than his third-place finish at the Leeds Merrion 25/25
the week before, Matt Eardley finished runner-up at the G Casino for £5,200.

With the tournament down to three of the 33 players who returned for Day 2 – Bernard, Eardley and Lawrence Brooks – a deal was agreed which saw the latter two settle for £4,500 each and Bernard take home £5,000, with £1,800 left to play for.

On the very next hand Bernard and Brooks saw a flop of J-5-5 and all their chips went into the middle with Bernard holding J-9 and Brooks K-J.

It didn't look good at that point for Bernard but the nine on the turn and a 10 on the river gave him a better two pair and saw Brooks out in third place for the agreed £4,500. With Bernard now a big chip leader, the players once again decided to deal with Bernard taking a further £1,100 and Eardley £700.
