Oliver Price takes down GUKPT London

Oliver Price became the first champion of the GUKPT’s eighth season after taking down leg one at the Victoria Casino in London from 7-9 February.

Some of the UK’s best players turned out, together with GUKPT and Vic regulars to create a prizepool of £323,000. Smashing the £200,000 guarantee.

The final day’s play in the £1,080 buy-in main event started with 27 players who were reduced to only nine over the course of six hours. The key hand saw Kevin Abecassis get his chips in with AK against the dominated AQ of Price only to see two queens appear on the flop. Not only did this bolster Price’s stack, it also burst the final table bubble.

Price, who finished in third place in the European Poker Tour Deauville main event for €271,200, added a further £86,400 at the Vic to his already swollen bankroll.

Londoner Price worked his way through a classy final table that included Ben Vinson, Matt Frankland and long-time chip leader David Laronde, eventually beating Alan Mansbridge heads-up.

It took a great call from Price to seal victory after Mansbridge had moved all in with his final 2.2m chips on an 8C-7C-4C-AH board. Price made the call with J8, which was good enough against Mansbridge’s J7 and held on to win.

Runner-up Mansbridge pocketed £57,300, with Andrew Christoforou winning £38,000 for third place.
