Brum deal for Deadman as Faisal hits back

Birmingham’s Faisal Shabbir won the opening leg of the Genting Poker Series at Star City from 12-16 February 2014.

But, with a top prize of £40,215 on the line, there was no room for brotherly love as the final-day action got underway, with both Chaz and Sunny Chattha amongst the 17 starters.

However, neither would make it as far as the final table, with Chaz hitting the rail in 17th place and Sunny joining him after Neil McCulloch’s AK ousted him in 14th.

Matt Davenport was the chip leader going into the final table and he was able to hold his nerve until just three players remained. But a huge loss to Simon Deadman eventually forced him to the rail in third place.

That pot left Deadman with a significant chip lead over Shabbir, but things didn’t stay that way for long. A fortunate double-up with A6 against Deadman’s AQ gave Shabbir a glimmer of hope which he managed to use to his advantage and capture the chip lead. Soon after the match was brought to a close after multiple draws failed to materialise into a made hand for Deadman in the final pot.
