Siriunas in seventh heaven with Leicester win

It took only seven hands of heads-up play before Vaidas Siriunas was crowned champion of the 25/25 Series Midlands leg in Leicester on 13 April 2014.

Following the elimination of Eleanor Gudger in third place it came down to a battle between Siriunas and Mike Brown for the title, with the outcome decided after Brown made it 125k to play in the seventh hand of their heads-up battle.

Siriunas shoved all-in with A-Q, with Brown making the call with KC-6C. A flop of AH-8C-JD made Siriunas a big favourite but the 2C on the turn offered hope of salvation for Brown.

The river card was the 4S, meaning Brown had missed his flush and Siriunas was £9,440 richer and 25/25 Leicester champion.

Runner-up Brown took home £6,205, with Gudger collecting £3,905 for her third-place finish.

And appropriately her demise came over the course of three hands. Firstly she lost a big pot to Brown who made it 80k from the button, with Gudger calling from the big blind.

The flop of 7D-10D-4H saw Gudger check-call a bet of 125k, with the turn bringing the 6C. Gudger again check-called, this time for 200k, with the river adding the 10H to the board.

Gudger checked again and Brown moved all-in with K-10, with his opponent quickly calling with J-10. Both players had trip 10s but Brown's king kicker saw a huge chip swing in his favour, with Gudger left with 270k and Brown 2.3m.

The next hand Gudger shoved all-in with jacks and got a caller in Brown, who also tabled fish-hooks for a split pot.

Finally a shove from the button by Gudger with 5-6 was called by Siriunas with K-2 and when no help arrived for either player it was the short stack out in third.

Jason Duke and Danish Gandhi headed the list of 59 players who returned for day two on Sunday and both were among the 17 players who cashed. Duke finishing in 17th place for £415, Gandhi in 15th place for £450.
