Morrison brothers double up in Dublin

The Super Stack Series event at the Maldron Hotel, Tallaght, in Dublin proved to be a happy hunting ground for the Morrison brothers, Tony and Nick.

Tony bagged the €150 + €15 main event title and €7,180 after beating Dave Masters heads-up, while Nick won the €50 + €10 side event for €1,020.

The main event attracted 205 entries, producing a €30,750 prize pool with 34 players returning for day two.

Masters was the chip leader at the start of the day on 482k, with Istvan Shakas in second place on 479k and Anton Tonkoglas in third on 410k. Morrison began the day in fifth place on 386k.

By the time the tournament reached the final table, Morrison (951k) had overtaken Masters (856k), with Gary Stokes now the chip leader on 972k after beginning the day just behind Morrison in the pecking order on 385k.

Tonkoglas busted out in 13th place for €450, with Szakacs making the final nine on 659k.

The line-up was completed by Vincent Dowds on 849k, Mark Stratan with 704k, Eamon Connolly (481k), Stephen Eccles (406k) and Conor Phelan the short stack on 272k.

Phelan was unsurprisingly the first to exit for €615, with Szakacs eliminated in eighth, Stratan in seventh and Eccles in sixth place after returning as one of the shorter stacks on 64k.

Connolly pocketed €1,850 for fifth place, with Dowds taking home €2,750 for fourth and Stokes €3,700 for third.

That left Morrison to enter heads-up play with a 4.2m to 1.9m chip lead over Masters and it proved too great a disadvantage for Masters to overcome.

In the final hand Morrison bet 350k with J-Q and Masters moved all-in over the top for 2.2m with A-Q. Morrison made the call and a jack on the river sent all the chips his way to leave Masters as runner-up for €4,900.

In the €50 + €10 side event on Sunday, Morrison's brother Nick picked up €1,020 after beating Tomasz Nowak (€660) heads-up, with Norbertas Jasinkas finishing in third place for €435.

The Saturday side event saw Aidan McAllister pocket €520 for first place, with Sean Creighton second for €270 and Kenn O'Toole third for €190.
