Berragan proves a top student

With a bumper field of 801 runners taking a break from their studies from 8-12 April to take part in the Grosvenor UK Student Poker Championship, it was Hull University's Cillian Berragan who took the title.

After three days of hard-fought action at the G Casino at the Ricoh Arena, Berragan managed to turn his £30 buy-in into a hugely impressive score of £6,190, plus a seat in a £550 GUKPT event after topping a final table that included Owen Davies, James Charnley and Will Jarman.

Heads-up play against Exeter University's Peter Brankin was a seesaw affair, with the lead changing hands several times, before Berragan took control when his AS-7D held against Brankin's AH-4S and moments later it was all over when he flopped top pair with KH-9H to crush Brankin's QD-8D.
