Winsor champion at GUKPT Walsall

Ben Winsor finally took home a trophy after winning the GUKPT Walsall main event from 25 May-1 June 2014.

Winsor, who finished fifth in the Genting Poker Series Southend main event in April and fourth in the GUKPT Brighton main event, also collected a cheque for £24,500 after a two-way chop with Simon Deadman.

Only 12 players returned for the final day with Andrew Probyn, George Lakin and Ian Bradley missing out on the final table.

Deadman took 570,000 chips to the final table, while Winsor was the huge chip leader on 1,032,000. But by the time they reached heads-up play it was Deadman who held a 2.7m to 1.1m chip lead.

But it didn't stay that way for long with Winsor doubling up when Deadman found himself with AS-6D on a AH-KC-8D-6C-5S board to his AD-8C. That evened things up and it was no surprise that the two players agreed on a deal that saw both lock up £23,500, with an extra £1,000 for the champion.

A huge pot then went Winsor’s way to leave him with 3.3 million of the 3.8 million in play and that proved too much for Deadman to fight back from.
