Crozier concedes, Hunt’s the winner

Leg 4 of the Grosvenor 25/25 Series at Merrion Way in Leeds from 8-10 May 2014 produced a whopping 226 entries for a £45,200 prize pool shared between 23 players, with Greg Hunt taking the title, trophy and £10,700.

Ali Mallu and Andy Bradshaw led the field of 72 who returned for day two but only Bradshaw went on to make the final table, where he was fourth in chips on 670,000 when play got underway.

Mallu failed to make the money and the new chip leader on the final table was Gary Armstrong with 1,180,000 chips, closely followed by Matthew Eardley on 1,000,000. Next came Luke Anderson with 870,000, Philip Nelson on 600,000 and Bradshaw, with James Gardner (330,000), Graeme Crozier (320,000), Gregory Hunt (290,000) and Charalampos Karatsiolis (280,000) completing the line-up.

Gardner was the first casualty after shoving all-in for 178k under the gun with A-J. The players then folded around to Crozier in the cut-off who re-shoved all-in with AC-KC.

The board of 2C-3D-5C left Crozier in a more commanding position but the 9D on the turn and 2H on the river helped neither player and Gardner exited for £950.

Nelson then lost a flip with Anderson after getting all his chips in from the cut-off with just 13 big blinds at his disposal. Anderson called with pocket eights and was in good shape against Nelson's Q-J.

The K-5-K-7-10 board provided no aid to Nelson who hit the rail in eighth place for £1,100.

Bradshaw was the next to leave after Armstrong flopped a set of aces after calling his shove from the cut-off with KC-9C.

Armstrong's AD-9D improved to a set on the AC-8C-AH flop and the 5D on the turn and 7H on the river saw Bradshaw off in seventh place for £1,400.

Karatsiolis took home £1,800 for sixth place after shoving from the small blind with K-J only to find Hunt holding A-8 in the big blind for a snap call.

The 2-4-9-2-8 board brought nothing for Karatsiolis and Hunt's pair of eights sent him to the rail.

Crozier claimed the next victim after his open shove for almost 900k from the cut-off was called by Armstrong in the big blind. Crozier's pocket nines saw him in front of Armstrong's A-J but Gary hit his jack on the 5-J-9 flop, only for Graeme to improve to a set. A seven on the turn and queen on the river confirmed his demise in fifth place, £2,350 richer.

Anderson was eliminated in fourth place after moving all-in following a 205k button raise which Hunt called with pocket fours. Anderson's A-9 improved with the 3-A-4 flop but was then behind Hunt's set and an eight on the turn and six on the river saw him splash out for £3,400 in fourth place.

And three became two when Eardley and Crozier got all their chips in with K-Q and 7D-8D respectively before the flop of KH-2D-4D gave Eardley top pair and Crozier a flush draw.

The 10C on the turn saw Eardley still in front but Crozier hit his flush with the 9D on the river to eliminate Matthew in third place for £5,300 and a £200 GUKPT voucher for finishing second in the last-man-standing wager.

Crozier and Hunt agreed an even chop heads-up but played on for the trophy and the title, with both men scooping £10,700 and Crozier an additional GUKPT main event seat worth £1,080 for winning the last-man-standing competition.

After only a few hands of heads-up play, Crozier decided not to continue and conceded victory to Hunt, the new Leeds 25/25 champion.
