Elms wins fourth leg of Welsh Poker Series

Ben Elms became the fourth Welsh Poker Series champion of 2014, when he took down the year's second final in Swansea on 30 November.

Elms amassed a stack of 197,150 on Day 1A in Cardiff on Friday to head into Day 2 at the Grosvenor Casino third in chips, behind John Cann and Leslie Tucker, who built up stacks of 223,500 and 213,000 respectively on Day 1B in Swansea on Saturday.

Neither Tucker nor Cann were able to manoeuvre their way to the 10-handed final table, which had Lewis Stevens as chip leader on 664,000, followed by Gary Bowden on 639,000, Dan Clark with 593,000 and Elms on 483,000.

Darren Davies had 396,000, with Jamie Fisher on 366,000, Henry Lloyd-Davies 255000, Jamie Purdon 221,000, Landi Assadi 211,000 and Steven Watkins was the short stack on on 58,000.

Lloyd-Davies, who'd returned as one of the day's shorter stacks on 45,025, went out first, followed by Assadi, who'd been sixth in chips on 136,400 when the day commenced.

Watkins did exceptionally well to finish in eighth place, with Fisher seventh, Stevens sixth and Davies fifth.

Clark, who'd started Day 2 fifth in chips on 164,525, exited in fourth place with the remaining players doing a deal, which saw Purdon parlay his way to the lion's share of the prize money, pocketing £5,360, with Bowden taking home £3,440 and Elms scooping £3,650 and going on to take the title to join Mal Linton, Liam Oliver and Bruce Jones as a 2014 Welsh Poker Series champion.
