Deadman ends year on a roll

Popular British grinder Simon Deadman capped a fantastic 2014 with a fourth-place finish in the EPT Prague High Roller from 15-17 December at the Hilton Prague Hotel.

Deadman has had a remarkable 2014, one that is by far his best ever on the live tournament circuit and one that has seen him win more than US$1.16 million.

Deadman started 2014 as he meant to go on by scooping £70,000 within the first two weeks of the year... reward for a second-place finish in the Genting Poker Series Nottingham main event.

A couple of weeks later, he followed that up in Deauville with another second-place finish in the €2,500 buy-in FPS Deauville High Roller, which earned him a further €87,280.

Another runner-up finish in February, this time in the GPS Birmingham Main Event for £27,755, made him the butt of countless bridesmaid jokes and he went and made it worse by finishing runner-up in the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Main Event for £40,000 in Manchester before repeating the feat in Walsall for £23,500.

But a win was always on the cards for Deadman and he ditched the bridesmaid tag by taking down the US$2,500 Hollywood Poker Open in Las Vegas, before finishing second twice again in a €330 event at the EPT Grand Final.

Deadman demolished the 692-strong field in Las Vegas to claim the US$351,097 first place prize, but it was getting the proverbial monkey from his back that was worth far more than the extra zeros on his bank balance.

A handful of cashes, including a fourth place in the Asia Championship of Poker in Macau, followed Deadman's victory before he rounded out 2014 in style by finishing fourth in the star-studded €10,300 EPT Prague High Roller for a cool €238,320.
