Foster takes Leeds GUKPT crown

Stephen Foster is the latest name to be added to the list of GUKPT winners after he took down the event in Leeds from 30 July-2 August.

An impressive field of 249 entries created a guarantee-busting prize pool of £124,500 at the Westgate Casino, where local man Foster beat Sheffield's John Woodhead to the title and £24,500 top prize.

After a four-way deal guaranteed Foster, Woodhead, Simon Taberham and Thomas Besnier would walk away with £19,500 each, Taberham's exit in third place left Woodhead to try and derail Foster's seemingly inevitable ride to victory.

But Woodhead couldn't overcome a two-to-one chip deficit at the start of heads-up play and eventually accepted defeat after all the chips went in on a 5H-6H-4S-AC-KH board with both players tabling two pairs, Foster's A-K topping Woodhead's K-6.
