Deadman’s hand takes Hollywood crown

Briton Simon Deadman scooped the biggest win of his career by topping a 692-runner field to win the $2,500 Hollywood Poker Open main event at the M Resort Casino Spa in Las Vegas from 27-29 June.

The first half of 2014 has been a frustrating time for Deadman who has had no-fewer than six runner-up finishes on the European circuit, including second places in the Genting Poker Series, GUKPT and the EPT.

But the man from Nottingham made no mistake in Las Vegas, working his way through a final table which also included Mike Sowers, Martin Godsk and Kitty Kuo, before defeating Michael Wang heads-up.

Deadman enjoyed some well-deserved luck on the winning hand as the K-10-7-K-7 board counterfeited Wang's pocket fives and left Deadman's A-3 in front for a whopping $351,097 payday.
